Air Fryer ‘Parmesan’ Chicken Thighs

These air fryer ‘parmesan’ chicken thighs, are juicy with crispy skin and totally delicious! They’re also paleo, AIP, Whole30, and Keto.

We recently purchased an air fryer, and naturally the first few days of owning it, I air fried everything! It’s such a fun kitchen appliance. And works SO fast.

I have to say one of my fave things that I’ve made in the air fryer to date are chicken thighs. The air fryer makes them super tender and juicy, and crisps the skin perfectly. Plus they’re SO easy and quick to make!

Ingredients you need to make these Air Fryer ‘Parmesan’ Chicken Thighs

Chicken Thighs

You’ll want to get skin on chicken thighs! This recipe calls for four – which fits perfectly in my air fryer. If your air fryer only fits two, you will have to cook them in batches.

Olive oil or Avocado oil

Only a couple tablespoons of oil is needed so the seasoning sticks to the chicken AND so the chicken thighs don’t stick to the air fryer.

Nutritional Yeast

This is what gives it the parmesan flavour without the dairy! I prefer to use Bragg’s Nutritional Yeast since it is certified gluten free.

Garlic and Onion Powder

Adding extra flavour with garlic and onion powder. Using fresh garlic and onion in cooking is great BUT I gotta love a recipe that uses the powder version because it’s SO much simpler and way less mess!

Basil and Oregano

Again we’re using the dried versions in this recipe.

Salt

Of course salt for seasoning!

How to make

  • Set two medium shallow mixing bowls or pasta bowls side by side.
  • To the first one, add the oil.
  • To the second dish, add the nutritional yeast, onion powder, garlic powder, oregano, basil, and salt. Give it a mix!
  • Then pat the chicken thighs with paper towel.
  • Dip each chicken thigh, on both sides, in the oil then in the seasoning and place skin side down on the air fryer basket, making sure they’re not crowded.
  • Air fry at 375 for 7-10 minutes. Then turn the chicken thighs skin side up and cook for another 7-10 minutes more.
  • Thighs are done when an internal meat thermometer reads 165F.

Note: I have the cuisinart convection oven air fryer, which I believe cooks faster than most other air fryers. It usually takes approx. 7 minutes per side. However, depending on which air fryer you use, and the size of the chicken thighs, you may have to add a few minutes per side. Always best to check with an internal meat thermometer!
